The Chatham Retired Educators Association’s (Chatham REA) monthly meeting was called to order by President Princetta Simmons at the Rebecca Padgett School of Performing Arts, 5918 Ogeechee Road on Monday, November 11, 2024. Chaplain Rosa Jackson shared an inspirational reading honoring Veterans. Chatham REA Public Relations Chair Dr. Brenda L Roberts presented a video in honor of Veterans Day, and recognized members with a PowerPoint showcasing their military service.
Governor Brian Kemp issued a proclamation designating Sunday, November 3, 2024, as Retired Educators Day in Georgia. Chatham REA President Princetta Simmons received Retired Educator Day Proclamations from The Savannah City Council, Chatham County Commission, SavannahChatham Board of Education, Bloomingdale City Council, Garden City Council, Pooler City Council. Port Wentworth City Council, Thunderbolt Town Council, and Tybee Island City Council. Chatham REA members worshipped at Overcoming By Faith Church in Savannah on Retired Educators Day.
The featured speaker at the November 11, 2024, meeting was Jennifer Dulong, Executive Director of the Chatham-Savannah Authority on the Homeless. She shared valuable information about homelessness and how we can be of assistance in reducing homelessness in the community.
Ms. Serena N. Burkart, a student at Savannah State University, was the recipient of $1.000 from the 2024 Dewey Lee Scholarship presented by Scholarship Committee Co-Chairs, Audrey Singleton, and Gail Moyer. Ms. Burkart gave a summary of her educational background and her future educational plans.
The next Chatham REA meeting will be held at the Rebecca Padgett School of Performing Arts, 5918 Ogeechee Road on Monday, December 9, 2024. Registration begins at 10:30 and the meeting begins at 11:00 am.
